WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT?
Why, its about offshore fishing, bottom fishing, and, yes, more fishing!
With over 60 years combined experience fishing southern Brevard and Indian River counties, the captain and crew of Freespool provide a wide variety of fishing possibilities. U.S. Coast Guard-certified Captain Phil Loeffel has nearly 20 years of fishing experience up and down the Atlantic coast from northern New England to Key West. First Mate Bob Vinson has been fishing the east-central and southern coasts of Florida for over 40 years.  Freespool is a fast 25.5-foot Dusky open fisherman with sea-kindly handling, and a top speed of nearly 40 mph. That means you get more fishing and less driving. And with an open bow, shady T-top, and a wide eight-foot beam, there's plenty of room for four people to fish comfortably.  Freespool is fully equipped with the latest in safety and fishing equipment. Dual sets of Coast Guard-required equipment, in addition to a class B EPIRB provide passenger and crew with the safest possible outing. The latest GPS (Global Positioning System), Loran, radio, and Sonar technology provide that added unfair technical advantage to locate and catch fish. With 25 built-in rod holders, you'll never miss having a rod and reel which is perfectly matched to the fish you want to catch.  The good ship Freespool is a "fishing machine", and the fishing possibilities are many and varied. You can troll at high speed for billfish, dolphin, wahoo, and tuna, or try anchored reef and wreck fishing for some of the biggest grouper, snapper, cobia, and amberjack you've ever seen. Throughout the year many fish migrate - some between deep water and shallow water, others between warm southern waters and cooler northern waters. Freespool tracks these migrations and varies its fishing efforts accordingly. Normally, but not always, the cooler fall and winter months provide excellent inshore (70' to 180') bottom fishing for grouper, snapper, and kingfish, while the warmer spring and summer months provide excellent opportunities for dolphin, wahoo, and tuna. Many gamefish species are present the year 'round, but be sure to ask "what's biting?" when scheduling your charter, we'll be glad to share our knowledge to help you plan your trip when the targeted fish are in the area.
